First- Here is why I chose dentistry:
I was 14 years old sitting around with a group of friends talking about what we wanted to be when we grew up… Both Greg and George said they wanted to be a doctor
Though at the time I may have preferred to be an Orthopedist I decided I wanted to be a dentist –because in my naïve way- I figured I would be home at 5 :00 pm for a future family I didn’t yet have.
My parents were divorced when I was 5 – my dad was never around. I grew up with a single mom who was wounded bitter, angry, and emotionally detached. I didn’t know it then, but I wanted a family-more than anything else I could Imagine.
I graduated dental school at 24 and opened my first practice from scratch. And, yes… I did have the family that I dreamed of and love very much.
Why I left:
Dentistry has been a gift to me. It has allowed me and my family a wonderful living, it has funded my continuing education ( lots of it!) personal healing and discovery. With finances in order, and the knuckles and fingers on my right hand no longer working at peak efficiency it was time to move on and spend full time on relationships through volunteering, contribution, coaching other professionals and filling a void in many people’s financial lives that really only time and adjustment in our thinking and knowledge can remedy. I love financial conversations and study, especially the model that I serve. I help business owners maximize profit by truly understanding the balance between control and risk.
As a former dentist, David has successfully grown and sold four dental practices, including one that was in the top 2% of producing practices in the country. The Exit Planning Certification and training really opened my eyes to how business works and the interplay between all the professionals that help a business succeed and become valuable to the market for the ultimate transition or exit. Understanding all phases of business growth from start-up growth, maintenance, and exit, help to make me a better financial strategist for my clients.
